NCDC announces 166 additional infections, total now 211,496

The Nigeria Centre For Disease Control (NCDC), has announced additional 166 Coronavirus (COVID-19) new infections from 14 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the country.

The NCDC made this known via its verified website on Thursday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 166 fresh cases reported on Wednesday, indicate an increase from the 159 cases posted on Tuesday.

The Public Health Agency noted that till date, 211,496 cases have been confirmed, 202,930 cases discharged and 2,886 deaths recorded in 36 states and the FCT.

It added that the 166 new cases were in Delta-36, the FCT-22, Rivers-21, Lagos-20, Anambra-18, Ondo-17, Oyo-8, Kebbi-6, Enugu-5, Plateau-5, Ebonyi-3, Kano-2, while, Bayelsa, Ekiti and Jigawa reported one case each.

“Today’s report includes: 6 confirmed cases reported from Kebbi state for Oct. 26, 2021, and the five confirmed cases reported from Enugu state on Oct. 26, 2021.

“Twenty discharged cases were reported from Enugu state on Oct. 26, and five discharged cases reported from Taraba state the same day are community discharges

“Two deaths reported from Lagos state on Oct. 26 (1) and Oct. 27, 2021,” it stated.

According to the agency, five states that recorded zero cases are Bauchi, Gombe, Ogun, Osun and Sokoto.

It added that a multi-sectoral national Emergency Operations Centre, activated at Level 2, has continued to coordinate the national response activities.

The NCDC said that over 3,298,966 samples of the virus from the nation’s roughly 200 million population had been tested.

Meanwhile, the agency said to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 during any events, Nigerians should observe physical distancing (of at least 2-metres) between participants, officials, and support staff at all times.

“Participants, officials, and support staff must wear a face mask at all times. Frequently touched items like door handles, elevators, gym equipment, etc. should be cleaned regularly.

“Hand hygiene stations should be set up at the venue to ensure a high degree of compliance with hand washing. Hand sanitizers should be made readily available.

“Distance of 2-meters in between seats should be enforced with marking on the seats. Avoid shaking hands or hugging,” it stated.

“Detection and management of event related to COVID-19 cases must be conducted in accordance with national policies and regulations,” the agency further advised. (NAN)
