Propelled by the success of its 1st Quarter (Q1) 2022 GoNigeria Digital Poetry Challenge, the GoNigeria Initiative, which encourages youth participation in the electoral process, has announced plans for a 2nd GoNigeria Digital Poetry Challenge. The Q1 Poetry Challenge Winners were:

1) Diana Modeme from Anambra State (1st) – the Star prize winner; N1,000,000 (One Million Naira);

2) David Odiase aka 78thpsalmist from Lagos (2nd);

and

3) Abdullahi Idi Dabiru from Borno State (3rd)

The first and second runners-up bagged cash prizes of N600, 000 and N400, 000 respectively. The Poetry Challenge was launched to commemorate the 2022 World Poetry Day. The aim was to further boost the public enlightenment campaign around Youths registering with INEC and collecting their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) in preparation for the 2023 General Elections.  The priority is to find multiple ways to sensitize Nigerian youths to participate in the electoral process.

Encouraged by the positive response of Nigerian youths to the Q1 2022 Poetry Challenge, GoNigeria is embarking upon a 2nd GoNigeria Digital Poetry Challenge, that will also be anchored by the renowned poet, Dike Chukwumerije, who is a GoNigeria Advocate. Entries for the Q2 Poetry Challenge will open on Monday, 11 April, 2022 and close on Thursday, 30 June, 2022. Only Nigerian youths aged between 18 and 34 are eligible to participate. The contest requires participants to do a 45-seconds spoken word video while holding their Permanent Voters’ Cards [PVCs] and emphasising the importance of getting their Permanent Voter’s Card [PVC] and encouraging other youths to go register and pick up their voters’ cards, whilst playing with the acronym PVC in the video. Contestants are required to ensure a strong visual display of their PVCs in their videos as a prop which must also involve WORD play around the acronym ‘PVC’, and then post their video using the hashtag #GoNigeriaPoetryChallenge tagging @anapfoundation.  Any video that is longer than 45 seconds will be automatically disqualified.

The poetry challenge is aimed at engaging Nigerian youths with a strong inclination in poetry to showcase their talents and be part of the ongoing GoNigeria advocacy campaign aimed at encouraging eligible young Nigerians in the country and diaspora to actively participate in the nation’s electoral processes leading up to the 2023 elections, as their direct involvement will be pivotal towards reshaping the country’s political destiny.
