The Lagos State Government has said on Monday that the Olusosun landfill at Ojota will be shut for 48 hours in order to ensure proper maintenance of the site starting from Wednesday.

The Director of Public Affairs, Lagos State Management Authority, Mrs Folashade Kadiri, made this known in a statement.

She said, “The Lagos Waste Management Authority has concluded plans to shut Olusosun Landfill at Ojota, for 48 hours, starting from November 10, 2021, to enable the authority to carry out palliative works on the dumpsite, for seamless waste management operations.

“The agency is carrying on with necessary maintenance of landfills in the state for efficient service delivery, with particular emphasis on Olusosun.”

Kadiri added that provisions had been made by the agency for the use of alternative landfills during the temporary closure.

She added, “The authority had made provision for use of alternative dumpsites, where waste collection trucks could dispose of their refuse, during the period of temporary closure.

“Private Sector Participation operators servicing Lagos Mainland had been diverted to Solous dumpsite, Igando; while those operating in the East District and Ikorodu, had been directed to dispose of their wastes at Epe dumpsite.

“LAWMA appeals to residents and road users in Igando and other affected areas, to bear with the authority, over the expected increase in vehicular traffic, necessitated by the 48-hour closure of Olusosun, as the outcome of the maintenance exercise would help us to sustain cleaner and livable environment in all parts of the state.”
