The Osun State Police Command said it had arrested two suspects in connection with the attack and killing of some farmers in Alapata area, Modakeke.
The State PRO, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident on Sunday, saying through intelligence gathering and swift response, operatives arrested two suspects in connection with the crime.
These killings came barely nine days after five farmers were murdered along the Toro Road, Modakeke, by unknown gunmen.
Explaining the situation, a community leader in Modakeke, Femi Eluyinka, explained that the unknown gunmen abducted five indigenes of the town from their farms in Alapata village on Saturday.
Eluyinka stated, “One of those abducted later escaped and ran to town to inform us. The community immediately informed the DPO of the Modakeke Division.
“The DPO led his men and alongside our youths to the area and recovered two corpses. Alapata village is after Toro village. The two corpses were taken to the OAUTHC, Ile Ife.
“Later, we were informed that another person, a woman, had also escaped from the assailants. She was injured on her hand. She was brought to the Ogunsua’s palace and from there, we took her to a hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.
“We are still searching for the last person now. A man and a woman were killed. We took their corpses to the morgue around 10.30pm on Saturday. The situation is still calm, because we appealed you our people to allow the elders to deliberate and find solution to the killings.”
Opalola, commenting on the development, said “Two suspects have been nabbed in connection with the killings. We are also searching for others involved in the killings. Intelligence led to the arrest of the suspects,”
Opalola also noted that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Wale Olokode, had relocated to the area to ensure the security of lives and property and swift response to situations.
