Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has criticized the former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Dakuku Peterside, for speaking about the state economy allegedly from a point of ignorance.
Wike questioned why Peterside, with his educational attainment, would say that merely because the budget figures of Lagos and Akwa Ibom States are higher, compared to Rivers’ budget, it means that the state economy is performing poorly.
Reacting to Peterside’s recent interview, Wike in a statement by his media aide, Kelvin Ebiri, on Thursday, said “When they asked him about the budget of Rivers State, he said the mere fact that Lagos State’s budget is very high, the mere fact that Akwa Ibom State’s budget is very high and Rivers State’s budget is low means the economy is not doing well.
“A PhD holder saying that the performance of an economy is based on the size of a budget,” the statement quoted Wike as saying.
The governor added that Peterside has a low level of understanding when he claimed that there is no governance in the state.
