Soludo Urges South East Traditional Rulers to Unite to Reclaim the Region

Governor Charles Soludo has extended warm felicitations to traditional rulers in the Southeast, stressing that collaboration is vital to the region’s development.

The governor made this submission at a recent meeting of the South East Traditional Rulers Council, where he stated that it is necessary to foster unity and dwell on each stakeholder’s pivotal role in the region’s advancement.

In a release by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, Soludo urged traditional rulers and other community organisations to collaborate, as that will lead to significant progress. “As Governors of the South East, we are working together, and so far, so good,” he stated.

According to Aburime, the governor acknowledged the rich customs and traditions unique to the Southeast zone, recognising the diverse cultures within the region while highlighting the strength that can be found in unity.

He asserted, “We are as different as we are similar. We are stronger together, united despite our diversity. Keep up the spirit,”

Reflecting on the profound connection of the Igbo language, Governor Soludo noted, “The Igbo language holds us together, irrespective of the dialects.” He lamented the changes that have occurred in Igbo land over the years, expressing concern about the erosion of foundational values and traditional practices. “The Igbo land I knew as a child is no longer the same. The fundamentals seem to be eluding us, and many taboos that once bound our society are fading away,” he said.

The governor, therefore, urged the South East traditional rulers to unite and work with various forces to reclaim their homeland. “This is your fundamental role,” he asserted. He also addressed the ongoing clash of cultures and religions, which has resulted in the celebration of ill-gotten wealth and other vices, calling for a renewed focus on the values of hard work, enterprise, and integrity.

He said a society becomes what it celebrates, advocating for a return to celebrating the region’s rich heritage and industrious spirit.

In his remark, Dr. E.C. Okeke, Chairman of the South East Traditional Rulers Council, praised Governor Soludo for his credible leadership and efforts towards the state and region’s development.

He emphasised the importance of collaboration among South East governors to enhance the welfare and progress of the region.”You are a good Governor, doing well in all ramifications,” Dr. Okeke remarked, acknowledging Soludo’s initiatives and commitment to improving the lives of the citizens in Anambra State and beyond.

His endorsement highlights the positive impact of Soludo’s administration, which has been marked by significant strides in infrastructure, security, and economic revitalisation.

Present at the event were the Chairman of Anambra State Traditional Rulers’ Council, Igwe Chidubem Iweka, Former Chairman of Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, Commissioner for Local Government, Town Union and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne, Council Delegates from the South East States, among others.
