A second-half goal from Nigeria international Victor Osimhen helped Napoli secure a 3-2 win over a resilient Bologna at the Stadio Diego Maradona on Sunday. It was Osimhen’s second consecutive goal since he returned from the injury that saw him ruled out of action for six weeks.

The Partenopeans were looking to claim a 10th consecutive victory in all competitions when they welcomed Serie A strugglers Bologna but were made to work hard by the visitors. Despite scoring on his return from injury against Ajax in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, Osimhen returned to the bench on Sunday but was decisive when called upon by manager Luciano Spalletti.

Bologna proved a difficult nut to crack from the start, and they showed promise in attack, with Joshua Zirkzee constantly probing Napoli’s backline. Napoli had the bulk of possession, but they failed to do anything meaningful. They got pegged back five minutes before the break, as Bologna showed brilliance in the final third with their intricate passing, and Zirkzee was on the end to send a low shot past Meret to make it 1-0.
