The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has advised residents of Kaduna State against the use of looted drugs allegedly stolen from a warehouse in the state, which included expired, prohibited, and dangerous drugs with high health risks.
The state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan, made this known on October 25, in a statement issued by NAFDAC, stating that the drugs were looted the previous day in a warehouse located at Narayi, in Chikun Local Government Area.
The Agency also quoted the management of a food processing company, whose stores were looted in Kakuri, as saying that the stolen grains had been treated with chemical preservatives which makes the items unsafe for consumption.
The statement reads “Residents of Kaduna State are hereby notified to be vigilant and careful about the sources of the food and medications they take and where they buy them, to avoid these dangers. NAFDAC, on behalf of the Kaduna State government, appeals to the public for information on the identities of the looters and where they might be hiding the stolen items.”
Speaking on the action, The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, who expressed shock over the looting and destruction of the agency’s property said though no lives was lost during the raid, the acts were uncalled for.
He, therefore, applauded the effort of Kaduna State Government in protecting the lives of the citizens, as the consumption of those drugs would have adverse effect on their health condition.
The NAFDAC boss also pointed out that the agency has take adequate measures in ensuring security around its facilities countrywide to avert further occurrence.
