The Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has commended all stakeholders who made the Saturday’s gubernatorial election in Edo state a success.
He made the assertion while winding down INEC Situation Room on the Edo Governorship election in Abuja, on Sunday.
Governor Godwin Obaseki, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, who emerged winner of the Saturday’s governorship election, polled 307,955 votes across the 18 local government areas of the state to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, who scored 223,619 votes.
Obaseki was elected on the APC platform in 2016 but defected to the PDP after being denied the ticket to run for a second term owing to intra-party dispute.
Yakubu reminded all stakeholders that the same standard should be maintained in the next governorship election in Ondo, come October 10.
He affirmed that three weeks after, it would be the series of by-elections in 11 States, on October 31.
