No fewer than eight people were injured on Wednesday as supporters of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of All Progressives Congress (APC) and Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) clashed in Oba Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred when the convoy of Governor Akeredolu met with that of Jegede in the town, a fight occurred and various vehicles were damaged.
This happened less than a month to the October 10 the state’s governorship poll.
The Akeredolu Campaign Organisation’s spokesperson, Olatunde Olabode, in a statement said Jegede’s ‘thugs’ were responsible for the incident while they were on their way to Ikare-Akoko for their local government campaign.
The spokesperson of Jegede’s Campaign Organisation, Samuel Fasua, in response alleged that their convoy was attacked by Akeredolu’s supporters, a situation that left some supporters injured.
He also disclosed that Akeredolu was sighted inside the convoy while the attacks lasted. However, Police operatives in the location simply vacillated and looked on in the face of the orgies of madness.”
Fasua affirmed “In the last five days, there have been series of machete and gun attacks on PDP supporters in Aiyede-Ogbese community in Akure North LGA, as well as the burning of two houses of PDP members. These continued attacks on PDP members by Aketi’s political thugs and shock troops, are no doubt threatening the peace of our dear state’’.
