The two straight wins of the Super Eagles in the ongoing World Cup qualifying series does not significantly reflect in the monthly FIFA world ranking.

Recall that, the Super Eagles recorded a 2-0 win over the Lone Stars of Liberia and proceeded to record a 2-1 win over the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde.

According to the latest ranking, the three-time AFCON champions also maintained their fifth position on the African continent.

Senegal remains Africa’s highest-ranked team as they are in 20th place; Tunisia is five places behind in the 25th spot while reigning AFCON champions Algeria is 30th and Morocco in 33rd.

However, the Super Eagles’ 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying group opponents, Liberia, rose to 144th while Cape Verde remained at 77th and the Central African Republic fell to 124th.

In the global rankings, the top five countries are from Europe and South America, with Belgium being the principal followed by Brazil, England, France, and Italy respectively.

The most prominent climbs among the top 50 came from Iran (22nd, +4), Russia (37th, +4), Norway (39th, +4), Scotland (45th, +4) and Northern Ireland (47th, +4).

The next rankings will be published on October 21, 2021.
