As part of efforts to curb hunger ravaging the land, promote food security, and improve the socio-economic lives of citizens, Prof. Charles Soludo, the Executive Governor of Anambra State has flagged off the “Farm to Feed” campaign in Awka, the Anambra State capital on Saturday, August 3, 2024.
The Governor emphasized that the campaign is aimed at encouraging organic farming among farmers and indigenes, thereby reducing hunger among the people of Anambra and ensuring that there is surplus of food to feed the state and nation.
Due to the ongoing #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests across the country, measures are expected to be taken by State Governors and representatives of Government on how they can also contribute their quota to ensuring that the collective problem of hunger is dealt with decisively.
“It is not just about complaining of hunger in the land, we should ask ourselves, what are we doing to ensure we have food sufficiency? The solution is to plant”, Governor Soludo stated during the flag-off of the campaign.
He urged all state governors and other stakeholders and citizens to cooperate by becoming part of the solution to curb the collective crisis of hunger. He urged the country to go back to the farm and specifically encouraged families to invest in farming to be able to feed themselves and sell the surplus of their harvest for other economic gains.
The ‘Farm to Feed’ campaign will encourage organic farming where farmers and families will reap bountiful harvests and surpluses in the next 12 months to ensure food sufficiency across the State.
