Officers and men of the Police Special Tactical Squad have arrested three of the suspected abductors of students of the Bethel Baptist High School in Kaduna State.

Parading the suspects the Police Public Relation Officer, Frank Mba, revealed that the suspects namely; Adamu Bello, Isiaku Lawal, and Muazu Abubakar, were part of the 25 gang members who kidnapped 126 students from the school on July 5.

According to the force spokesman, the suspects played active roles in the kidnap of the students, adding that “we have generated sufficient intelligence, and we are closing in on the others.”

Responding to questions, Abubakar, who was dressed in military camouflage, said, “We kidnapped them because we needed money. Twenty-five of us carried out the operation. We kidnapped 126 students and I got N100, 000 share from the money (ransom).”

Mba noted that investigations are still ongoing and that all the criminals involved will be brought to book. The police also called on churches to be security conscious, noting that criminal elements now “consider churches as weak and vulnerable.” This security warning followed the arrest of a gang, which specialized in breaking into churches to steal musical instruments, and other property. One of the suspects, Monday Akawo, said he stole pianos and other instruments from 16 churches within the Federal Capital Territory.
