Activist and Lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has confirmed that the singer and social media personality, Darlington Okoye, aka Speed Darlington, is currently being detained by the Nigerian Police Force in Abuja.
Adeyanju revealed that Speed Darlington was arrested in Lagos last Friday and subsequently transferred to Abuja, where he has remained in detention since.
He claimed that the arrest was based on a formal complaint from Grammy Award-winning artist, Burna Boy.
However, further details regarding the nature of the complaint were not provided.
The activist revealed this in a post on his X (formerly twitter) handle on Tuesday.
He wrote, “We just spent the last 30mins with Speed Darlington and he narrated how he was arrested in Lagos Friday last week, moved around and eventually brought to Abuja and has been in detention since then. Petition against him was written by Burna Boy, we can confirm.”
Earlier, a social media influencer, Constance Nwogu, raised an alarm regarding the alleged disappearance of Speed Darlington.
In a message shared on social media on Monday, Nwogu expressed concern over the artist’s whereabouts, noting that he has been unreachable for three days.
In response to the reports of Speed Darlington’s disappearance, Burna Boy took to X on Tuesday, writing, “Who’s missing?”
However, there are no direct links to whom Burna Boy is referring. It remains unclear if Burna Boy’s comment was directly related to the situation.
The police is yet to release any information as of press time.
